bits of history

It's Tuesday morning and I'm beginning to formulate a plan for tonight's program.

It's the anniversary of the Apollo 16 (the 5th mission to land on the moon) return to earth in 1972 and the 1961 launch of NASA's Explorer 11 satellite.

In 1981 on this day Xerox introduced the computer mouse!

Also a 1978 Nuclear accident at Willow Island, W. Virginia which killed 51 people.

and in 1989 students in Beijing took over Tienanmen Square .

on April 28th 1969 King Crimson debut with Greg Lake, Ian McDonald, Michael Giles, Robert Fripp and Peter Sinfield. We all know this album and I'm going to play something from it tonight.

KAOS is a truly free form, non commercial, independent radio station. We are volunteer operated and depend on community support to bring music and public affairs information to the Public Airwaves.
Each dj's makes all content decisions about their own show and that means we are not beholden to any top down music director or corporate sponsor. We each try to make programs that expose the listeners to interesting music rarely heard on the radio anywhere in a context that is entertaining, enjoyable or just rocks! :)

It's becoming more and more difficult to bring in funding for this sort of community service and I want to inspire those who do support it in theory or in practice to go the next step and contribute to the station.

Community voices on the air. Real people with real, important contributions to make.
You are able to hear this only because people have supported this station for the last 38 years in many ways. Things have changed a lot in those years and media is now more complicated and more big business than ever.

KAOS is perhaps the only station that still gives free training to community members who want to put a show on the air!

wrapping up the year

Here we are, coming upon the end of the year, only 4 more editions of Dancing in Circles before 2010.

(I just realized that the last day of the month there will be a Blue Moon!)

Next week, Dec 8th, will be an All Dreamsville show, which means I’m going to broadcast songs by artists I’ve connected with thru www.dreamsville.com , a Bill Nelson fans forum site.
A smattering of quite talented artists submitting tracks, sometimes collaborating with each other to make the music, all brought together by an interest in Bill’s music. I’ve played a number of these tunes over the last 3 years but thought I’d devote a whole show to them this time. All self released, independent artists, mostly submitting their work for free downloads.

Then the 15th will be a preparation for the holidays/solstice/turning show and perhaps Archery as well -> (Sagittarius)

On the 22nd I’ll focus on the winter solstice, but I haven’t determined more than that.

The December 29th show will be a BLUE MOON/best of the year show.
