alarming news

As of Sunday July 15, KAOS' online audio stream might be unavailable available for the foreseeable future. Why???

On March 2, 2007 the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB), which oversees sound recording royalties paid by Internet radio services, increased Internet radio's royalty burden between 300 and 1200 percent and thereby jeopardized the industry's future.

"The Day the Music Died: Web Radio in Peril"

A huge increase of fees takes effect on July 15th because of a recent decision by the Copyright Royalty Board in Washington D. C. This increase may lead to KAOS dropping the on-line streaming of our programming!

KAOS will air a discussion of the rule changes and rate increases regarding royalties fees for playing music over the internet, in multiple broadcasts, beginning Friday July 6th at 12:30p.m., the next on Wednesday July 11th at 2:30p.m., and a final presentation on Thursday July 12th at 8:30p.m.

This Pacifica Radio documentary - "The Day the Music Died: Web Radio in Peril" can be heard on KAOS 89.3fm, and on the web right here - at least for now!

Friday 7/6 at 12:30 as part of "Digital Crossroads"
Wednesday 7/11 at 2:30 to on "Rookie Radio"
Thursday 7/12 at 8:30p.m. as part of "Free & Fair!"
